Salt Lake City, UT — Freshman Talen, already known for their controversial presence on campus, is now facing severe backlash after reportedly using a racial slur in their residence hall’s team group chat. According to multiple sources, Talen used the N-word in a casual conversation within the chat, sparking immediate outrage from fellow students.
Incident Sparks Immediate Outrage
The group chat, used by students living on Talen’s floor to communicate about shared responsibilities and events, quickly devolved into chaos after the message was sent. Several students immediately called out Talen for using the slur, stating that it was completely inappropriate and offensive.
“I couldn’t believe what I was reading,” said one student who was in the chat at the time. “There’s no excuse for using that word, especially in a public group where we all need to work together as a community.”
Another student commented, “It wasn’t just a slip-up. Talen casually threw it in like it was no big deal, which makes it even worse. Everyone was shocked.”
Calls for Disciplinary Action
In response to the incident, many students are calling for immediate disciplinary action. Some have contacted the university’s administration, demanding an investigation and possible expulsion for Talen’s use of the racial slur.
“Racism has no place on this campus,” said one student who wishes to remain anonymous. “The university needs to take a strong stand against this kind of behavior. We shouldn’t have to feel unsafe or disrespected in our own living spaces.”
Student groups, including the Black Student Union, have also spoken out, condemning Talen’s actions and calling for a campus-wide response to address racial issues.
Talen’s Silence
Since the incident, Talen has remained silent, neither apologizing publicly nor responding to the growing outcry. Friends close to Talen have mentioned that they are aware of the backlash but are unsure how to respond.
“Talen knows they messed up, but they’re not sure what to do next,” said a friend. “It’s a serious situation, and I think they’re trying to figure out how to handle it.”
University Response
As of now, the University of Utah has not released an official statement regarding the incident. However, sources within the administration have indicated that the matter is being investigated, and that steps will be taken in line with the university’s code of conduct.
A spokesperson from the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion said, “We take incidents involving racial slurs very seriously. Our goal is to create a safe and inclusive environment for all students, and we will be addressing this issue thoroughly.”
It is unclear what Talen would do now.
